My family’s been using safe toothpaste for about five years, but I never thought about our toothbrushes or dental floss until writing a post last September.
Because I haven’t been picky, we’ve used many brands of plastic toothbrushes throughout the years. However, many plastic toothbrushes are made with BPA – a toxin I’d like to avoid.
I am NOT interested in toothbrushes made with wooden handles and pig’s hair bristles. I do not want to chew on a wooden Neem stick. And I don’t even think I’ll invest in a recycled toothbrush with a replaceable head.
Instead, I’ll make sure Oral B toothbrushes are on my shopping list – Healthy Child, Healthy World reports they’re BPA-free.
For floss, we prefer to use a waxed nylon floss. I’ve tried unwaxed varieties before and they’ve gotten stuck between my teeth. After fearing I would need to walk around with a strand of floss sticking out of my mouth, I’m happy to choose waxed floss.
I do want to avoid Teflon flosses, just as a way to limit my use of plastics.
That’s what works for me and my family – what works for yours?
