I am all about consumable gifts this year. I don’t want to add to someone else’s clutter, so Consumable Christmas, here we come!
One of my favorite kinds of consumable gifts is anything to do with food or drink. You can get as simple or extravagant as your budget will allow. Here are some food gift ideas I’ve given and/or received in the past:
International interests
Pick one nationality, and go crazy with the cuisine. Make an Italian gift with pasta, sauces, cheese, and bread. A Mexican gift could be as simple as several kinds of salsas and gourmet tortilla chips. Or, it could be as complex as including a recipe card with ingredients for the entire recipe. Think of your recipient and tailor your gift to his or her tastes – explore Indian, Thai, Greek, or Japanese cuisines.
Root beer bonanza
Do you know someone who loves root beer? Buy as many different varieties as you can find. (I once received a dozen different bottles. And they all tasted decidedly different.) Or, if you know a beer fanatic, use the idea with pale ales or lagers.
Bread basket
Go all out with a variety of baked goods – breads, muffins, scones, crumpets – or stick to a loaf of bread and several jams.
Snack attack
Help someone have a few fantastic movie nights with an outstanding snack pack. Choose different kind of popcorns, snack mixes, nuts, pretzels, crackers, and potato chips.
Wine-o-mite
Give the gift of an at-home wine tasting by selecting a couple bottles of wine. Throw in some cheese and crackers for a magnificent date night.
The Breakfast Club
Possibilities abound with a breakfast gift. Give some gourmet pancake mixes, bottle of real maple syrup, and Canadian bacon as a tasty start to the day. Or, create a make-your-own-granola gift with large quantities of granola ingredients.
Jolt of Java
Make your coffee lover’s Christmas with a gift of a variety of coffee beans. Depending on the recipient, include sugar and creamers, too. (Or a couple of gourmet hot chocolate mixes.) If coffee’s not the hot beverage of choice, how about a bunch of different teas along with a bottle of raw honey?
What kind of food-themed gift would you love to create for yourself … and receive?
