I’m admitting some pretty big things this week – from my stewardship flaws to a self-inflicted clothing fast. Just wait until you read about my pack rat tendencies tomorrow.
So it may not come as a shock when I confess that I really struggle with planning a weekly menu. I know I should. I want to. And sometimes I even do. But for as much as I love to cook, planning ahead is a major weakness for me.
Like every New Year, I’m trying hard to create some sort of a menu habit. Fortunately for me, I have been reading Stacy Myers’ eBook cookbook Crock On! I love home-cooked meals in the winter – and a slow cooker is a fantastic solution for busy people. (Using a slow cooker in the summer is brilliant, too, especially because you don’t have to add to the heat in your home with an oven.)
Crock On! is a semi-whole foods slow cooker cookbook with plenty of suggested ingredient modifications – you can choose how healthy you’d like your meal. Each recipe is free of processed foods. That’s right! Slow cooker recipes that don’t use a creamy soup from a can.
I think I’ll spend this winter trying Stacy’s 25 recipes that would be perfect for a main course – including soups, sandwiches, and entrees like Mexican Chicken Chowder, Carolina Barbecue Chicken Sandwiches, and Black Bean Lasagna. The eBook also includes many side dish and dessert recipes, like this recipe for Cheesy Sausage Potatoes:
I’ve already attempted to make her pumpkin apple cake, and my family gobbled it down. (I did learn that you can bake a cake in a slow cooker. Like any cake, though, make sure you let it bake the entire time so that it’s completely finished.)
Stacy will generously donate one copy of Crock On! to a lucky Accidentally Green reader. Please enter below:

Stopping by from Christian Mommy Blogger’s FB post. I am an avid menu planner but it took a lot of time to make it a habit. This cookbook sounds very promising. I’ll be looking into it. Very much enjoyed my stop over here at your blog. God Bless.
I love my crock pot and would love to have more whole foods recipes. I just don’t feel great about any recipe that requires me to dump a can of condensed soup over the top! Thank you!
