Once you’ve packed your belongings and prepared your home, you’re finally ready for vacation. As you depart, don’t leave all of your green habits at home. Here are four simple ways to make an environmentally friendly difference while traveling – and they shouldn’t cramp your style:
1. Plan to see a single destination instead of traveling all over the place.
You’ll potentially save in transportation costs – especially if you can walk most places – and you might even score a cheaper room rate.
2. Stay and eat local.
You’ll be able to boost the local economy and support local entrepreneurs that don’t use as much shipping, packing, energy, or fuel as the huge changes. Plus, you should experience a much better feel of what your vacation destination truly is like.
3. Choose souvenirs that help the local economy.
Because handmade or local items are unique, they’re a great find – as long as they don’t take advantage of the area’s natural resources.
4. No matter where you’re staying, be conscientious.
Try to reuse your sheets and towels. Turn off the lights and air conditioning when you leave the room. And try not to waste food.
