If you’re looking for another perspective on how to live a greener life, you need to read Emily McClements’ eBook, “Green Your Life.”
Her green journey, just like my own, began after she and her husband lived without being mindful of environmental stewardship. But after employment changes and their first pregnancy, they began making healthier, more frugal choices that ended up being green. Since this was true in my own life, I completely relate.
As Emily explains,
“We may not be able to makes changes to the whole world, but we can make changes at home and with our families, and those changes, however small they might feel, DO have an impact. We can take steps to remove chemicals and toxins from our homes and our lives to better protect our children. We can choose to protect the environment by not using harsh chemicals in our cleaning, throwing away less garbage, and conserving energy and water. We need to take the responsibility for protecting our families and our world. We can’t sit back and expect others, or the government, to do it for us. It’s up to us to make changes in our lives that will have an impact on our health, on our environment, and on others around the world.”
What you can expect
In 268 pages, “Green Your Life” matter-of-factly explains how you can make wiser choices in five areas: green and natural cleaning; natural personal care products; eco-friendly baby and child care; green around the house; and in the marketplace.
When it comes to green and natural cleaning, Emily gives compelling evidence why you should make the switch to healthier, greener cleaning – and then she helps you do it with recipes and supply lists.
She also explains how and why you can save on utilities like electricity, heating and cooling, and water. And she addresses garbage and recycling.
Emily shares homemade beauty and personal care product recipes, along with a list of 10 ingredients to avoid in personal care products. “The bathroom is one of the smallest rooms in the house, but making changes to your personal care products and beauty routine can have a major impact on the amount of chemicals and toxins you and your family are exposed to on a regular basis,” Emily writes.
She also explains what toiletries are safe – and unsafe – for babies and children, and she details cloth diapering and gives a helpful overview of healthy feeding options for infants.
Emily challenges readers to consider the moral and ethical implications of their purchases, while also offering suggestions in simplicity and how to green your shopping habits.
