I don’t know if I can say it was worth the wait – because it felt like such a loooong time – but it just might be.
Initially, we planned on moving in right after we painted the children’s bedrooms. But then we actually got the keys to the house and discovered gorgeous hardwood floors underneath all of the really nasty, really smelly carpet. Quickly, we decided to rip up all of the carpet instead of getting it steam cleaned. But we didn’t want to paint and worry about our “new” hardwood floors, so we chose to paint every room while the carpet still was on.
That meant tearing down wallpaper, priming, painting, ripping up carpet, and scrubbing floors in every.single.room.
It was a brutal six weeks of hard work, but it was joyful work, too. There’s something special about working on your own home. Prince Charming and I are exhausted, for sure, but are closer now that we’ve been working toward a common – albeit lofty – goal.
Since I’ve been immersed in home renovations, I have many, many home-centered blog posts to share with you. We definitely didn’t make green decisions every step of the way, but when we could, we did. Over the next few weeks I’ll share a lot about painting, wallpaper removal, carpet … and even how to remove awful carpet padding that has cemented itself to hardwood flooring.

We are working on our daughter’s room. I can’t wait to hear your tips!!
Your story makes me think of an old adage that applies to so many areas of our lives–“Anything worth having requires hard work.” As you transition into your new home, I pray God will reveal all the good things He’s been doing in you during these tough months of waiting. Thanks for sharing this. Gail
What an encouraging comment, Gail … thank you!
