Some people adore fall.
I don’t.
I know that every fall brings plenty of gray days and cold weather. (I’m a hot, sunny day kind of girl.) I know that after every fall, a freezing, snowy winter is coming. And most of all I know that every fall, my two children and I will suffer from cold after cold starting sometime in September all the way to April or May. It doesn’t matter where we live, how healthy or not healthy we eat, how frequently we wash our hands, how much we stay hermitted away in our own house, or if we’re crazy busy getting out and about with many people. We get sick, and we stay sick.
Currently we’re about six weeks into our family’s bout with annoying colds. Two of us have been to the doctor, and the third one probably should go soon. Strangely enough, my husband – a school teacher – stays healthy each year.
I can’t believe I’m the only mama out there who is accustomed to the drone of coughing and sneezing for yet another fall. Because I’ve written about taking care of sicknesses in the past, I thought you’d be interested in revisiting these four posts:

We did have never ending colds… the era of the perpetual runny nose… for the first few years my son was in day care. It got to the point where it was embarrassing constantly wiping this poor kid off and just feeling bad for him being miserable. Then… by the time we hit kindergaren, a lot of the other kids we knew were going through that phase but Nat has been consistently healthy. He may be down for a few days during the season but nothing like when he was younger. It seems to me like it is just the natural process of establishing a strong immune system. Being regularly exposed and fighting it on your own helps to do just that. It might help to explain why your hubby is healthy each year. Everyone’s systems are different since you aren’t feeling well also. I hope you’re all feeling well soon!!!

I have watched my grandchildren go through this cycle of colds for several years, and this year all the family members got pneumonia – except for Dad. And he has Crohn’s disease. But for that he doses with good quality probiotics every day., which build up the immune system. So guess what the Easter bunny brought this year, along with the Easter eggs? A years supply of Junior probiotics for each of the kids. A healthy gut is the basis for all good health. The ancient Greeks knew that, but we have got too sophisticated and don’t allow kids exposure to conditions in their early years where they can build up their gut flora.
