Can you believe it? June is really here! May and June definitely are my favorite months each year, and I’ve been fully enjoying the amazing late spring/early summer weather and the longer days.
Because summer is fully and completely here now, life is busy. Many readers are busy with summer fun – and I am, too! As long as the weather is nice, I’d rather be outside with my young children as much as I can.
I’m trying to enjoy summer as much as I possibly can this year. So I’m switching AccidentallyGreen’s schedule. I’ll post only on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
And, throughout June and July, I’m trying to cut way back on my time online. If I don’t respond to e-mails or Facebook posts right away, it’s simply because I’m purposefully taking time offline. (I’ll continue to schedule posts and social media updates, but I may not respond so quickly.) Last summer I took an entire week away from the computer and LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT. I’m doing the same thing this year, but I’m thinking of increasing my computer-free time to two whole weeks.
Big news
In the middle of my freedom from computers, though, some big things are happening on Accidentally Green:
- I’ve been asked to be part of another rocking eBook bundle sale that starts on Monday, June 10, and
- I’m launching a brand new blog on Monday, July 1.
Never fear – I’m keeping Accidentally Green. But I’ll share details about this new project closer to the launch date. I am absolutely excited about the way God has been working out all the details of this second blog and can hardly wait to tell you more about it.
How’s my May?
Since I’ve been sharing monthly updates about my Accidentally Green kind of life this year, here are two major things that happened in my May:
I radically changed my daily schedule. I used to stay up half the night working on blogging, but now I go to bed early so I can wake up early and start my day while the sun rises. I never thought I was a morning person, but this has been a pretty productive change.
My husband and I started the Whole 30 Food Challenge. We were planning to give up all dairy, sugar, and grains for a month, but it ended up lasting a whole 30 hours instead of 30 days. At first I wondered if it was an issue of willpower – but honestly, we couldn’t get past the fact that we were depriving ourselves from some very good, natural foods. It seemed too strange to tell my children that they should eat their yogurt – or beans, or fresh corn on the cob – but Mommy couldn’t.
Through the two days I did realize exactly how many empty calories I was adding to my meals. As a result, I’m finally feeling bold enough to drastically reduce my use of sugar. I’ve eliminated my morning cup of coffee, since I could only drink it with cream and sugar. I’m cutting back on grains and dairy. And I’m adding a ton of fresh produce, which is very easy to do now that summer’s here.
New posts
Aside from being pretty busy with getting ready for my vacation from blogging (unplug this computer and get me outside!), I’ve had a lot of guest posts throughout May:
- Illuminating Lightbulb Choices on Live Renewed;
- 6 Ways to Avoid Using Paper and Plastic in Your Home on A Delightful Home;
- Making the Switch from Nonstick on The Marathon Mom;
