Now that you know the difference between deodorants and anti-perspirants, as well as ingredients you should avoid in underarm products, it’s time for an Accidentally Green Deodorant Challenge.
This week’s Reduce, Reuse and Recycle Challenge, if you choose to accept it, is to grab your deodorant.
First, check the label. If you notice Parabens, Triclosan, or Retinyl Palmitate as part of the ingredient list, seriously consider buying a new product. (Please pitch what you have and buy something safer.)
Next, check out the Environmental Working Group’s Cosmetics Database. Look for your brand of deodorant. Did you find it? What’s the rating? Is the rating acceptable to you? If so, fantastic! If not, get shopping.
Personal disclosure
Recently, I was pretty disappointed when my local store stopped carrying my deodorant stand-by – unscented Sure. I checked for other safe alternatives and bought unscented Mitchem PowerGel anti-perspirant and deodorant for my husband and unscented Tom’s of Maine long-lasting deodorant for myself.
Talk back
Once you’ve completed the challenge, please comment below or share your experience on Facebook. Did you need to throw away your old deodorant, or are you pleased with the product you use?
Planning to shop on Amazon.com? Please start your shopping spree through Accidentally Green. Simply click on the Amazon link at the top right corner. You’ll be directed to Amazon, and Accidentally Green will receive a modest commission at no additional cost to you.

I love the name of your blog. I agree…I’m usually not out trying to purposely be environmentally friendly or save the planet but making healthier choices that honor God leads to that. :-) I switched deodorants awhile ago. I’ve used a variety of all natural deodorants. The most effective one I’ve found….making my own. Simply by using raw, organic coconut oil and baking soda! No kidding it keep the odor away for at least 12 hrs.(longer on a person who doesn’t have a strong odor). I’m one of those people who starts to work up an armpit odor after being out of the shower for only an hour…haha The antibacterial properties in the coconut oil combined with the odor absorbency of the baking soda make the perfect pair. You can mix your own and put it in an empty deodorant stick tube or you can just spread coconut oil on your underarms and then dab with baking soda. Quite simple. :-)
I’m visiting from the Better Mom link up now following your blog via Facebook Twitter and Pinterest! Have a great week!
